March 3, 2010

We are very pleased to announce Alesha Dixon as guest presenter and star performer at Mr World 2010, Incheon, Korea.

2009 saw Alesha Dixon stack up smash hit after smash hit with the album ‘The Alesha Show’ reaching platinum sales, over the past year Alesha’s status has rocketed to superstardom.

Since shimmying her way into the charts with ‘The Boy Does Nothing’, ‘Breathe Slow’ and ‘Let’s Get Excited’, she has sold almost 1 million records; been a personal guest of Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Downing Street (Mr Brown dubbed her ‘a national treasure’); and completed an awe inspiring epic climb to the peak of Mt Kilimanjaro helping raise over $6 million for Comic Relief.

In between tour dates fans can catch Alesha on one of the biggest shows on British Television, Strictly Come Dancing, where this year she takes the seat as a judge less than two years after winning the show.

Alesha Lights up London for Gold Hearts!

Alesha Dixon lit up the London skyline this evening by unveiling a 160ft-high projection on Battersea Power Station to launch the 2010 Variety Club Gold Hearts Appeal, in conjunction with The Co-operative Group.

The Variety Club’s Gold Heart badges will go on sale from 28th January 2010 in all Co-operative stores, H Samuel branches, Cineworld, Odeon and across all AHG/MWB venues including Malmaison, Liberty, Greens Health & Fitness, DeVere Venues and Village Hotels in addition to local retailers and from the Variety Club online shop, for a suggested minimum donation of £1.

The singer-songwriter, dancer, model and TV personality is the face of the 2010 Gold Hearts Appeal and has designed a limited-edition Gold Heart badge to raise money for The Variety Club children’s charity. With help from some of the children benefitting from the charity’s fantastic work, Alesha switched on the projection at the iconic London location to reveal her exclusive design for this year’s badge.

The Variety Club Gold Heart is the original charity badge. Established in 1991, the badges have featured a different design every year and are popular collector’s items. This year’s design features the classic gold finish and Alesha’s signature.

I’m honoured to be fronting the 2010 Gold Hearts Appeal. The Variety Club is a fantastic charity which every year helps thousands of children and young people. The projection is a great way to tell people about the campaign, although it is a bit overwhelming seeing your own image projected onto such a large building!

Every badge bought will make a real difference to someone’s life. Just three badges will pay for an unforgettable day out for a young person, so I’m encouraging everyone to go out and buy them.

Each Gold Heart badge sold will help to raise much-needed funds for sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and young people all over the country. For more than 60 years, The Variety Club has brought hope, independence and freedom to children and young people.

February 27, 2010

Alesha Dixon may be under pressure to perform as a judge on Strictly Come Dancing, but the singer knows where her strengths lie and she isn’t afraid to show it.

Whether the brunette, who flashed her toned legs at an award show in Madrid last night, was sporting a very short dress or a top was anyone’s guess but either way, the canary yellow outfit certainly had the desired effect.

Unfortunately for Alesha however, she encountered some some stiff competition at the Principales 40 event, in the form of teenage singer Pixie Lott, who turned heads in a lace top and sequined hotpants – and little else.

The blonde bombshell, 18, dazzled the crowd in the revealing outfit that left little to the imagination.

Earlier in the evening, Alesha, 31, and Pixie were the picture of sophistication in floor-length gowns.

But the demure look was obviously not attracting enough attention and it wasn’t long before they changed into barely-there outfits.

Perhaps a busy Alesha, who has to be back in the UK today for the live Strictly show, didn’t have time to choose an entire outfit.

Alesha, who says she would love to return for another series of Strictly next year, faced criticism from her fellow judges who are not so certain, with Len Goodman saying he would not be surprised if she now puts her music career first.

But despite doubts over her future and the cold, a professional Alesha worked the red carpet – blowing kisses to her fans as they admired her curves.

Alesha Dixon is the belle of the Jingle Bell Ball in ruffled mini corset dress

February 27, 2010

She’s faced a wave of criticism over her judging abilities on Strictly.

But whatever anyone says about Alesha Dixon, few could fault her show-stopping performance last night at the Jingle Bell Ball.

The singer brought the house down as she took to the stage for the second and final night of the gig at London’s 02 Arena.

Dressed in a sexy ruffled blue corset dress, the 31-year-old star put in some dance moves of her own that showed why she was once crowned champion of the show she now judges for.

Although the large number of artists, (fifteen in total) at the concert meant she could only perform two songs, Alesha had the crowd in the palm of her hand.

Alesha sang Let’s Get Excited, the third single from her latest LP, and her top 10 hit The Boy Does Nothing.

She finished up by telling the crowd: ‘I love you guys very much!’.

Alesha says she would love to return for another series of Strictly next year.

But her fellow judges are not so certain, with Len Goodman, 65, saying he would not be surprised if Alesha now puts her music career first.

Club-hopping Alesha Dixon has a ‘Don’t you know who I am’ moment as her entourage is refused entry to Funky Buddha

February 27, 2010

As a judge on one of Britain’s biggest TV shows, Strictly Come Dancing, Alesha Dixon is a household name.

But on a night out club-hopping last night, the 31-year-old found her fame only goes so far – it couldn’t guarantee entry at one of London’s top nightspots.

Alesha run into trouble trying to get her 11-strong entourage into Funky Buddha in Mayfair and was embarrassingly turned away by stubborn door staff.

She had started the night off at Mahiki’s 3rd birthday party but soon moved on with a large group of friends to continue partying at the pricey Berkeley Street venue.

But when she, a female friend and ten other male friends pitched up, they were given the old clipboard treatment and barred from entering.

A member of staff pointed out that she only had six places reserved on the guest list and insisted the group was too large to accommodate.

After failing to persuade them to change their mind, Alesha soon accepted defeat and shuffled off to the May Fair Hotel for a few quiet drinks in the bar.

Her manager told MailOnline: ‘Unfortunately Funky Buddha was full and could not accommodate everybody. They were happy to let six members of the party on the guestlist in, but rather than split up the group they decided to go for a drink in the hotel that she and the band were staying in.’

The former Mis-Teeq singer and her large group of friends might have regretted spending just 20 minutes at Mahiki earlier in the night.

But despite the night not quite going to plan, Alesha still seemed in good spirits.

Alesha Dixon gets back into the swing of things as she kicks off UK tour

February 27, 2010

Alesha Dixon poured herself into a gold sparkly leotard and got back to business this week as she launched her UK tour.

Dressed as a showgirl and perched on a giant swing, the Strictly Come Dancing judge looked stunning as she opened her show at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham.

Her black gloves and fishnet tights looked as they might even have been stolen from the dance show wardrobe.

Alesha, 31, has endured a torrid few weeks after taking over from Arlene Phillips as a judge on the hit BBC show.

Critics attacked the move, claiming the 2007 winner was not qualified to comment on amateur performances.

She was also derided for being too nice during her first few appearances.

But Alesha was back on form on Tuesday as she shrugged off the row at the start of  her 18-day tour.

Her 67-minute show featured the former Misteeq singer’s greatest hits including The Boy Does Nothing and Breathe Again.

She also performed her new singer, To Love Again, which she composed with Take That’s Gary Barlow.

Unsurprisingly, Alesha’s dancing was a core part of the show and she thrilled fans with some complex routines, including one with a top hat and cane.

If the dancing was a perfect 10, the outfits and set looked a little less impressive.

Alesha may have appeared to change costume several times – but she retained the same sparkly leotard and simply added accessories, including a different coloured belt and a skirt.

Reaction from critics and fans was rather mixed.

The Sun declared Alesha ‘smouldered’ and that ‘even acid-tongued judge Craig Revel Horwood would have given her top marks.’

Local paper The Nottingham Evening Post praised her for an ‘impeccably well-drilled show’ but added ‘it would also have been good to see her breaking step, cutting loose, and surrendering to the rhythm.’

‘It had been an evening of candy-floss entertainment: sweet and fun and fluffy, but offering little in the way of lasting nourishment,’ critic Mike Atkinson concluded

Alesha will be appearing on Strictly throughout her tour dates.
